A Shared Vision for Cape Town: Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis Visits CentralBlue

Last Updated: 7 July 2026

Executive Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis officially visited the CentralBlue development in Blue Downs on 23 June, highlighting a shared vision between the City of Cape Town and Citra to deliver accessible housing, innovation, and long-term value.

For Mayor Hill-Lewis, public service has always been driven by a mission to eradicate extreme poverty in South Africa and build a society where the circumstances of one’s birth do not define their life chances. His visit to CentralBlue highlighted how Citra is actively turning this principle into reality—by bringing premium-quality, sustainable housing to the affordable and middle-income markets, giving families from all walks of life a secure foundation from which they can thrive—a perfect reflection of his well-known conviction: “Housing is dignity. Housing is opportunity.” Reflecting on the importance of the Mayor’s visit, Joel Baur, CEO of Citra, noted:

“Welcoming the Mayor to CentralBlue was a privilege. His commitment to expanding opportunities for everyday South Africans aligns perfectly with our mission, and we are incredibly grateful for the City’s shared vision and support.”

High-Quality, Community-First Living

Located in the heart of Blue Downs, CentralBlue is a vibrant neighbourhood designed to foster a secure, peaceful environment that makes its owners proud and fills them with joy. Designed as a complete lifestyle hub for everyday living, the community’s future footprint includes:

  • A dedicated shopping centre and business hub to support local small businesses.
  • A private school within walking distance.
  • Dedicated green spaces for family recreation and relaxation.

Driven by Citra Building Technology

A key stop on the Mayor’s tour was the Citra Site Lab at CentralBlue, where Citra Building Technology prototypes are built for strength and durability testing. CentralBlue includes homes built with Citra’s patent‑protected building technology, which underpins the company’s approach to delivering high‑quality, sustainable housing. Historically, highly durable and sustainably built homes have only been available to the upper end of the market. By managing the entire process in-house, Citra makes this cutting-edge technology accessible, seamless, and reliable for everyday homeowners—bringing future-ready construction within reach of a broader market.
